Holiday cottage in the heart of the Limousin
The great outdoors is everywhere, its just a question of how you choose to make the most of it…….cycling, mountain biking, walking, horse riding, water sports, golf, bird watching, mushroom hunting?
Fishing is very popular and permits are available at the Tourist Information office in Bugeat or if you want to guarantee an easy catch you can visit the fish farm in Bugeat and return with Trout for supper.
Lac de Viam is the closest beach for a good swim at the end of a hot day out sightseeing, but Lac des Barriousses on the way Treignac has better facilities and softer sand than Viam. The water also seems to warm up earlier in the year. There is a a large shallow splash area for smaller children with swings, slide, volleyball on the beach and crazy golf and boules among the trees. The beach-side cafe has toilets and during the summer runs a programme of regular entertainment with spectacular firework displays over the water around the 14th July. Station Sports Nature Correze are based in a cabin on the lake-side and you can hire kayaks and pedaloes from them. In the opposite direction between Meymac and Ambrugeat, Lac de Sèchemaille is a pretty lake with similar facilities and is again very popular. If you are looking for a day out about 45 minutes to the North is Lac de Vassiviere which is vast! It is the largest man-made lake in France and even has its own island dominated by a chateau. A Contemporary Arts Centre hosts various events and exhibitions and a permanent sculpture trail winds through the grounds. There are various boating options, one being a mini cruise with a restaurant on board and there is more sailing, windsurfing and water-skiing available at different locations on its shores
Family fun in the forest.
On the edge of Lac de Vassiviere there is the treetop activity park called Arbre en Arbre where the more adventurous can pass a couple of hours clambering along the aerial walkways and riding the zip lines.
